Why families choose family day care with us

Five Stars Learning is an approved family day care service. Our office is in Berwick, and our registered educators care for children in their own homes across the City of Casey and Cardinia. We register, train, visit and support every educator, so you get home-based care with a service standing behind it.

  • One educator who knows your child

Your child spends their day with the same educator, not a rotating roster. That consistency is what helps babies and toddlers settle.

  • Small groups by law

Family day care is capped at seven children per educator, with no more than four under school age. It's a very different day from a 60-place centre.

  • Play-based and Montessori-informed

Children choose real, hands-on activities, practise doing things for themselves, and learn at their own pace. Programs follow the national Early Years Learning Framework.

  • Hours that suit working families

Care from 6am to 7:30pm on weekdays, plus Saturdays. Useful for shift workers, early starts and long commutes on the Pakenham line.

  • Siblings together

Mixed ages mean a baby and an older sibling can often be cared for in the same home, with before and after school care for school-aged children.

  • Supervised and supported

Our coordination team and Educational Leader visit educators' homes, review programs and check safety and compliance under the National Quality Framework.

How enrolment works

Four steps from first enquiry to first day. How soon you can start depends on vacancies near you.

  1. Tell us what you need

Send an enquiry or call with your suburb, your child's age and the days you're after.

  2. We suggest an educator

We match you with a registered educator nearby who has a place on the days you need.

  3. Visit the home

Meet the educator, see the space, and do a short settling visit with your child.

  4. Enrol and start

We help with the paperwork and your Child Care Subsidy, and your child starts care.

Real homes, set up for children

Each educator's home is assessed and approved before any child attends, and checked again on our regular visits. Inside, you'll find low shelves children can reach themselves, natural materials, reading corners and quiet places to rest. Outside, there's space for gardening, sand and water play, and running around.

Days follow a steady rhythm: free play, group time, meals, rest and outdoor play. Because groups are small, educators can follow what each child is interested in rather than running everyone through the same activity at the same time.

  • Active supervision and safe sleep practices
  • Sleep and rest that follow your child's routine
  • Observations and learning stories shared with families

Where we provide care

Our office is in Berwick. Our educators work from their homes in the suburbs below and nearby, and new educators join regularly, so coverage changes. If your suburb isn't listed, ask anyway.

For privacy and safety, we don't publish educators' addresses. We share details once we've matched you with an educator.

Who runs the service

Founded by an early childhood educator

Five Stars Learning was set up by Danhua Chen, who has worked in early childhood education and family day care for more than 15 years.

Danhua has worked as a Room Leader, Nominated Supervisor, Coordinator and Educational Leader, and has 26 years of experience teaching languages. She set up Five Stars Learning to offer safe, high-quality care in a home setting, and to give educators the support they need to run professional services from their own homes.

More about us

Questions parents ask

What is family day care?
Family day care is regulated early childhood education and care provided in a registered educator's own home. It's covered by the same National Quality Framework as childcare centres and is eligible for the Child Care Subsidy, but groups are much smaller: no more than seven children, with a maximum of four under school age.
Which suburbs do your educators cover?
Our office is in Berwick and our educators care for children in Berwick, Narre Warren, Clyde, Pakenham and nearby suburbs in the City of Casey and Cardinia Shire. Send us your suburb and we'll tell you who has places near you.
What ages do you care for?
Babies, toddlers and preschoolers, plus before and after school care and school holiday care for primary school children. Each educator's group is a mix of ages within the legal limits.
What are your hours?
Educators provide care Monday to Friday from 6:00am to 7:30pm and Saturday from 7:00am to 7:00pm. Each educator sets their own hours within that range, so we'll match you with someone whose hours fit yours. Our office is open 9:00am to 5:00pm on weekdays.
Can I claim the Child Care Subsidy?
Our application for Child Care Subsidy (CCS) approval is in progress. Once it's approved, eligible families will have the subsidy taken straight off their fees. Ask us for the latest update when you enquire, and use our CCS calculator to see what you'd pay with the subsidy.
Can I visit before enrolling?
Yes, and we recommend it. Once we've suggested an educator, you can visit their home, meet them, and arrange a short settling visit with your child before care starts.
