What you get with Five Stars Learning

Running a home-based service shouldn't mean doing it all yourself. We support educators from the day they join and for as long as they're with us.

  • Work from your own home

Operate your service from your own approved home, without a commute.

  • Choose your hours

Set the days and hours that suit your life, within the service's operating hours.

  • Compliance and admin handled

We help with registration, compliance, enrolments and paperwork, so your time goes into the children.

  • Program support

Help with planning, observations, learning stories and reflective practice from our Educational Leader.

  • Regular home visits

Visits that support quality and safety, and someone to call when you have a question.

  • Training and mentoring

Ongoing professional development, and a community of other educators to learn from.

Is family day care for you?

If you answer yes to any of these, it's worth a closer look.

  • Do you want to make a real difference to children?

You'll be the person a small group of children learn with every day, from first words to first days of school.

  • Would you like to be your own boss?

You set your fees, your hours and your program, and build a business around your life.

  • Do you want to work from home?

No commute, no rostered shifts, and time with your own family at the start and end of the day.

Questions educators ask

Do I need a qualification?
Yes. You need at least an approved Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, or to be actively working towards one. If you're partway through a course, or thinking about starting one, get in touch and we'll talk about your situation.
Can I rent my home?
Yes. Family day care is delivered from the educator's own home, owned or rented. It needs to be safe and suitable and meet the National Regulations. If you rent, you'll usually need written permission from your landlord. We guide you through the home safety assessment.
Can I choose my hours and how many children I care for?
Yes, within the National Regulations, which limit family day care to seven children per educator, with no more than four under school age. You choose the days and hours that work for you and your families.
What educational support will I get?
Our Educational Leader and support team help with program planning, the EYLF and My Time, Our Place, intentional teaching, observations and learning stories, reflective practice, school-age documentation, child development and wellbeing, and preparing for assessment and rating.
How do I get paid, and are there fees?
We go through payment arrangements and our fee structure in full when we talk, so there are no surprises.
How long does it take to get started?
It depends on your qualifications, your checks and how ready your home is. After our first chat we'll give you a realistic timeline.
